Al was born in Crestline on January 3, 1934 to the late Clarence and Florence (Krichbaum) Shearer. He married Joyce E. (Kemp) Shearer on July 9, 1966 at the First Lutheran Church in Shelby. They were married for 50 years and she survives him.
Al was employed by PPG Industries, Inc., Works #26, Crestline for 22 years as a line operator, retiring in 1994. He graduated from Crestline High School in 1953. Al enjoyed woodworking, reading, watching westerns with his granddaughter Courtnie. He enjoyed model cars and old car restoration. Al loved going to high school football games with his grandson Brian and enjoyed Ohio State and Cleveland Browns football.
Al is survived by his four daughters, Cathy (James) Shifley, Galion, Kimberly J. Arter, Tucson, AZ, Synthia (Scott) Wahlstrom, Mentor, Amy L. (Ron) Hoffman, Caledonia, his nine grandchildren, Wendi (Jason) Zwaduk, Brian (Ivah) Shifley, Cassandra (Paul) Schlichtholz, Robyn Arter, Justin Stinehelfer, Cody (Portia) Stinehelfer, A. J. Wahlstrom, Nicole Wahlstrom (Sugarlump), Courtnie Bell (Sweetpea) and his five great-grandchildren, his sister Phyllis Jean Northcutt, Tucson, AZ, and his brother Michael F. Shearer, Columbus.
Al was preceded in death by his son, Michael Aldon Shearer and his infant sister Marilyn Shearer.
Friends may call Wednesday, April 12, 2017 from 10:00 AM-12:00 PM at the Schneider-Gompf Funeral Home, 303 Portland Way North, Galion. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM on April 12, 2017 at Schneider-Gompf Funeral Home, Galion, with Pastor Stephan Bloomfield and Rev. Loyd Caudill officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Galion at a later day.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital in care of the funeral home.
