It is with heavy that we announce the passing of Harry "Butch" Gerald Ziegler, Jr. on March 3, 2024, at his home in Galion, surrounded by his loving family. Harry, known to many as Butch, led a life enriched with love and service to his country, community, and family.

Butch was born in Mansfield on September 14, 1944, to the late Harry and Dortha (Knight) Ziegler, Sr. He would later meet Joanne Goldsmith, and they would marry on October 30, 1981.

A proud graduate of Ontario High School, Class of 1962. Butch dedicated much of his working life to Marion Power Shovel, where he excelled as an electrician until his retirement in 1999. Moreover, his commitment extended to the United States Air Force, where he served as an autopilot technician during the Vietnam War, earning respect and admiration for his patriotism and bravery.

A devoted member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Galion, Butch served as a lector, showcasing his faith and kindness to all those around him. His hobbies and pastimes, which included watching sports like Ohio State football, Cleveland Browns, and Cleveland Indians, endeared him to many, reflecting his passion for his favorite teams and his love for the game.

Butch found joy in various activities such as tinkering with his computer, engaging in online bingo, bowling, fishing, and playing bingo with his colleagues and friends. He adored his feline companions, Koal and Sonny Boy, who brought him comfort and companionship in his later years.

Those left to cherish Butch's memories are his wife of 42 years, Joanne Ziegler of Galion, his children; Anthony "Tony" (Elizabeth) Keller of Galion, John (Beth) Keller of Galion, Kevin Ziegler, Melissa Ziegler and Kimberly Ziegler; his sister and brother-in-law; Joyce (Bernie) Webb of Ontario; his grandchildren; Katie Keller, Amber Keller, Emily Keller and Zak Ziegler; and his nephews; Mike and Sean McLaughlin.

Friends may call on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, from 5:00pm until 7:00pm at the Mark A. Schneider-Gompf Funeral Home, 303 Portland Way N., Galion. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, March 7, 2024, at 11:00am at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 135 N. Liberty St., Galion, with Father Paul Fahrbach officiating. Burial will immediately follow the service at Mt. Calvary Cemetery where full military honors will be rendered.

Those wishing to make a memorial contribution are asked to consider the Crawford County Humane Society or St. Joseph Catholic Church of Galion.
