James E. Eckert, 73, of North Thoman St., Crestline, died Monday, November 29, 2010 at his home after an extended illness.
Jim was born in Crestline, on January 28, 1937 to the late Arthur W. Eckert and Evelyn C. "Tiny" (Ball) Eckert, who survives in Crestline. He married Nancy R. Amick on May 19, 1955 and she preceded him in death on August 5, 1996.
Jim retired as a delivery man for the former Roberts Oil Company, Mansfield. He had worked at Sears for 17 years in Marion and Mansfield. He was a fan of the Cleveland Indians. Together with his wife, they enjoyed long car rides through the country and enjoyed the wildlife. Many of these journeys included visits to the area around Smithville where American Bald Eagles nested.
He is survived by his two sons and daughter; Kevin and Judy Eckert, Kris and Tara Eckert, Kari and Ed Pfeifer, all of Crestline; his four grandchildren; Aaron Eckert, Ben Eckert, Dustin Eckert, Abbey Eckert, and his two brothers and sister; Melvyn and Kathy Eckert, Crestline, Jon and Sandy Eckert, Crestline, Pam Jourdan, Galion.
Friends may call Thursday from 5-8PM at the Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home, Crestline. Funeral services will be held at the graveside at 11:00 AM on Friday, December 3, 2010 in Greenlawn Cemetery, Crestline, with Rev. Martin Stiffler officiating.
