In Loving Memory
January 11, 1924 - April 22, 2017
Born in Craig, CO
Resided in Galion, OH
Leila was born in Craig, CO on January 11, 1924 to the late Earl and Ada (Faulkner) Velzy. She graduated from Mansfield Senior High School. She married William N. Weir and he preceded her in death in 1991.
Leila was a homemaker and brought a lot of joy to everyone she met and was a friend to all. She was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, in Galion and did volunteer ministry work. Leila loved writing, whether it was a poem, stories about their vacations, or letters and cards. She taught her children from an early age, to be thankful for what they had and don't waste anything. She also instructed them "if you can't say something nice about somebody, don't say anything at all". She taught by example, to be friendly and nice to everyone. She would say "walking is good for you" so her and the kids walked everywhere together. An activity she practiced throughout her life. Another important thing to Leila was her teeth and she told her children to take good care of theirs. Good advice since she still had her own teeth at 93 years old.
Leila lived a long and happy life. Her assured hope for the future is to live on a Paradise Earth forever young according to Bible Promises (Psalm 37: 29)
She is survived by her children, Dale Weir, of Mansfield, Marilyn and Paul Lewton, of Bedford, Virginia, Steve and Zandra Weir, of Galion, and Colleen LaVel, of Bedford, Virginia, seven grandchildren and spouses: Karrie and Carey, Leesa and Jason, Rachel and Alex, Christopher and Kristen, Heather and Matt, Crystal, Lindsay and Jody, eight great-grandchildren, brother-in-law, Harry Weir, and his family of Galion and sister-in-law Jane Velzy and family, and many other nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband William N. Weir, her parents Earl & Ada Velzy, brother, Walt Velsy, and sisters Toni Stryker & Shirley Cotsenmoyer.
Services will be held at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 915 Portland Way North, Galion on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at 1:00 PM with Joe Goins, presiding.
The Schneider-Gompf Funeral Home, 303 Portland Way North, Galion is honored to serve the family of Leila M. Weir.
