Obituary

Ronald E. ''Gene'' Hencye, 84, of Galion, passed away Thursday, February 8, 2018 at Signature Healthcare, Galion.

Gene was born in Ashland, KY on March 6, 1933 to the late Carl and Sara (Wagner) Hencye. He married Elizabeth Jane Hoover on July 18, 1953 and she survives him. Gene and Jane were truly devoted to each other.

A veteran of the US Army, Gene served in the Korean War. Gene helped in Jail Ministry for 15 years at the Clackamas County Jail in Oregon City, OR. He was the owner/operator of Hencye Tool & Die Co. He was a member of the St. Paul United Methodist Church in Galion. Gene loved to set up his electric trains in his shop and thought it was the most beautiful thing to watch them run. He also loved to do woodworking in his free time, building animal clocks. In high school, he enjoyed playing basketball. While in Germany, he played basketball with his Army units team. He and his wife Jane also enjoyed playing basketball together. Gene with the big heart always let Jane win. In addition to basketball, they enjoyed square dancing together.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his brother, Charlie Hencye of Florida; sisters, Barb (Allford) Watkins of Findlay and Joyce (Ted) Strutz of Galion; his sister-in-law, Mildred Haas of Galion; his brothers-in-law, Frank (Helen) Hoover of Ontario and Jim (Peggy) Hoover of Bay Village.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Garey Hencey and Dick Hencye; his sister Donna Hencye Daniels; and his sister-in-law, Alice Arter.
Friends may call Tuesday, February 13, 2018 from 10:00 AM-12:00 PM at the Schneider-Gompf Funeral Home, 303 Portland Way North, Galion where funeral services will follow at noon with Pastor Ash Welch officiating. Burial will take place Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul United Methodist Church in care of the funeral home.
