Obituary

W. Irene Phillips, of Crestline, passed away Monday, December 4, 2017 at Galion Community Hospital, Galion, after a brief illness.

Irene was born in Bradshaw, WV on March 21, 1934 to the late E. L. and Myrtle (Asbury) Mullins, Sr. She married Jackson P. Phillips, Sr. on February 12, 1950 and he preceded her in death on March 18, 1996.

Irene was a member of the Heritage Baptist Church in Galion where she was a teacher of Sunday School. She was a member of the Thursday Morning Housewives Bowling League, Crestline Mother’s Club, and a lifetime member of the VFW Aux, Post 2920, Crestline. Irene sang with the Sweet Adelines. Irene was proud of her pond, and enjoyed feeding her fish. She had multiple interests including quilting, crocheting, watching murder mystery TV shows, and game shows. She never missed an episode of Jeopardy. She also enjoyed traveling, and was a Cleveland Indians fan. Irene loved her cats. Because she was a very social, loving and caring person, she had numerous friends. Irene had a great admiration for her former pastor and good family friend, Pastor Fred Bleck.

Irene showed her love for her family by organizing holiday parties and family reunions.

She is survived by her children; Marcheta and Jim Gibson, Galion, Danny Ray and Sherry Phillips, Crestline, Jackson and Shelley Phillips, Jr., Crestline, Debra Sue and Brett Barker, Findlay, Timothy Brooks Phillips, Columbus, eight grandchildren; Kerry (Ben) Riggs, David Gibson, Meghan (Nathan) Lance, Jeb Stuart Phillips, Andrew Jackson “AJ” (Linsey) Phillips,
Brandi Phillips (Brian Ruhe), Kevin (Megan) Phillips, Chad (Vanessa) Roberts, two step-grandchildren; Jeremy Barker, Casey (Staci) Barker, seventeen great-grandchildren, and one on the way, her sister and brothers; Dawneda and George Yost, Pace, FL, Ernest and Jean Mullins, Statesville, NC, and E. Luther Mullins, Jr., Collierville, TN; and her special nephew, Jim (Alita) Phillips.

She was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Mikel Roberts; infant grandchildren, Jacob Allen and Cynthia Lynn; infant great-grandson, Jameson Charles Lance; infant sister, Shirley Rose Mullins, and her brothers, Gene Mullins, Joseph Mullins, and Sammy Mullins.

Friends may call on Thursday, December 7, 2017 from 4:00PM - 7:00 PM at the Schneider-Gompf Funeral Home, 223 West Main St., Crestline. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, December 8, 2017 at Heritage Baptist Church, 1381 State Route 61, Galion, with Pastor Rodney Noblit officiating. Burial will follow in Crawford County Memory Gardens, Crestline.

Memorial contributions may be made to either St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Boys Town in care of the funeral home.
