Obituary

Willmond S. ''Bill'' Cook, Age 88, of Galion, entered eternal rest, Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at Signature Healthcare, Galion.

He was born in Galion, on December 23, 1929 to the late William Raymond Cook and Henry Marie (Motsinger) Cook Quay. Bill was given a combination of his father’s name; Will from William and mond from Raymond. He married Shirley A. Gledhill on August 19, 1955, and she preceded him in death on December 21, 2015. Bill was proud and grateful to have been married 60 wonderful years to the love of his life, Shirley.

Bill graduated in 1948 from Galion High School. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was stationed primarily at Ft. Myer in Virginia, where he performed military honors at Arlington National Cemetery as part of the Army’s Old Guard, Third Infantry Regiment. Bill worked as deputy clerk for the Crawford County Auditor. Many folks will remember Bill as their school bus driver. He drove busses for Galion Public Schools for ten years. Bill was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, Crestline and former longtime member of First Lutheran Church of Galion. Bill was a member of the Scarborough Post #243, American Legion, Galion. He also served as High Priest of the Galion Chapter #142, Royal Arch Masons, Past Master and Past High Priest of the former Arcana Lodge, Crestline, Chapter #88. He was a member of the Scottish Rite Valley. He was a former member and President of the Galion Lions Club. Bill spent thirty years on the Crawford County Board of the Community Concert Association as well.

He is survived by his daughter, Lisa (Barry) Gritton, Cincinnati; four grandchildren, Brody Cook, Columbus, Mitchell Cook, Columbus, Carly Gritton, Washington DC, Carson Gritton, Cincinnati, his daughter-in-law, Jodi Cook, Bucyrus, and his half-sister, Martha Hasenyager, Wadsworth.

In addition to his wife and parents, Bill was preceded in death by his son, Brian Cook and his sister Naomi Jane (Cook) Hackett.

Friends may call Saturday, April 14, 2018 from 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm at the Schneider-Gompf Funeral Home, 303 Portland Way North, Galion. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, April 14, 2018 at Schneider-Gompf Funeral Home, Galion, with Pastor Diana Seaman officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Galion with full military honors conducted by the U.S. Army and the Galion/Crestline Joint Veterans Military Funeral Detail.


Memorial contributions may be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church, Crestline or to the Galion/Crestline Joint Veterans Military Funeral Detail in care of the funeral home.
