Anthony L. “Tony” Garverick passed away Thursday, January 3, 2019 at Mill Creek Nursing and Rehab in Galion.
He was born on January 28, 1951 in Galion to Norbert and Eileen “Tootie” (McCallister) Garverick. Tony was raised in Morrow Co. Ohio across the field from his grandparents, Fred and Mabel Garverick.
He graduated from Northmor in 1970. On September 28, 1973 he married Rebecca J. (Bishop) Garverick in Butler, Ohio. They lived in Crestline for 5 years before moving to Galion. They were married for 45 years. He worked for 38 years at PPG in Crestline retiring in 2008 due to his health. Tony suffered 10 years with his disease Progressive Supranuclear Palsy which is in the Parkinson family. He would have been an awesome grandfather taking the kids to the park and out for ice-cream. He loved going to the drive-in movies, sitting in a lawn chair in the front row with an occasional cigar. He enjoyed reading and golf. In high school he played basketball and baseball. As an adult, he did target shooting which he excelled at. He was a detailed in his hobbies/projects he did on the house.
Tony was a good son, visiting his mother out of state once a year. He also went to Kentucky and helped his father with projects on his home and going to the drive-in movies. He created a lot of good memories with his family.
When the kids were growing up, he helped coach their sports and going to their games, that is why he worked third shift so he could be involved with their sports and activities.
He is survived by his wife Becky, his sons, Thomas “Tom” Garverick and Benjamin “Ben” Garverick and partner Jaime White; grandchildren, Kaydance Furr, Sophia Garverick, and Ethan White, all of Galion; his brother, Gary Garverick of Edison; sister, Roxann and Jerry Johnson of Ooltewah, Tennessee; step-brother and step-sisters, Janet and Larry Sidwell of Galion, Ida and Dan Parker of Mansfield, Roger and Christine Francis of Florida, and David and Rhonda Francis of Kentucky.
He was preceded in death by his parents, step-brother Dale Thomas Francis.
Friends may call Tuesday, January 8, 2019 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Schneider-Gompf Funeral Home, 303 Portland Way North, Galion. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at Schneider-Gompf Funeral Home, Galion, with Dr. Dan Turner officiating. Private burial will be in Mansfield Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson Disease Foundation or to the Homecare Matters Home, Healthcare & Hospice in care of the funeral home.
