Donald Gerster Obituary

Donald E. Gerster, 76, of Shelby, formerly of Crestline, passed away Tuesday, June 25, 2019 at his residence, after failing health for the past year.

Don was born in Shelby, on February 12, 1943 to the late Howard C. and Margery R. (Hornavious) Gerster.

Don graduated from Crestline High School, in the Class of 1962. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War for which he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. He was employed by CSX Railroad as a maintainer until his retirement. Don lived life to the fullest. He was a very welcoming and kind gentleman to everyone he met. Almost too kind to a fault. He loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Don is survived by his son, Joe and Corrie Gerster, Shelby, his grandchildren; Nate, Gabe, Sam, Cassandra, Jacob, Ben, Katie and Lilly, his great-grandchildren; Izzy and Jeremiah, his brothers; Michael Gerster, Galion, Thomas Gerster, Galion, and his sisters; Judy Sanders, Galion, and Becky Gerster-Weithman, Galion.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Mary Awbrey.

Services for Don will be announced at a later date.
