Gracie Allred Obituary

Gracie Lee (Carney) Allred, 98, of Crestline, was called home by her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, November 12, 2019 at her home.

Gracie was born in Eagleville, TN on May 27, 1921 to the late Mac Ewin and Henrietta (Carney) Fisher. She married the late Robert H. Allred on August 2, 1941 who preceded her in death on July 6, 2015. They were married for 74 years.

Gracie moved to Crestline in 1942 where she made her home and became an active member of the First Baptist Church of Crestline. She was the trustee, president of the usher board and Mother of the church.

She was employed by the Hill Top Motel and housekeeper to several homes in Galion and Bucyrus, Ohio. Gracie was also a laundry attendant for the YMCA of Crestline where she retired. She was an Eastern Star and the glue that held her family together. Gracie was known as “Mama Grace” to the community of Crestline and surrounding areas to the young and old. She will be missed by many.

Left to cherish Gracie’s memories are her two sons and her four daughters: Robert H. “Jimmy” Allred; Jerry Allred, both of Crestline; Robbie L. Allred-Canada, Kansas City, MO; Shirley A. “Tiny” Hayes (Billy Wilson), Akron; Gloria J. “Bubbles” Hairston, Crestline; Carolyn Slaughter (Keith Taylor), Columbus; 18 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great grandchildren, 10 grandchildren through marriage, special friend, Jane Beck, Crestline; and a host of family and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, Gracie was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Dorothy Jane Allred; a stillborn son, Allen Henry Allred; granddaughter, Aretha F. Allred; grandson, Anthony L. Allred and a great-great granddaughter, Jay’Lee Dakota.

Friends may call on Friday, November 22, 2019, from 10AM until the time of funeral services at 12:00PM at the First Baptist Church, 212 East Livingston Ave., Crestline with Pastor Frank M. Bolden and Senior Pastor Dr. James Banks officiating. Burial services will follow at the Greenlawn Cemetery, Crestline.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Schneider-Gompf Funeral Home to assist the family with final expenses.
