John Carl Grimes

John Carl Grimes, 71, of Marion, passed away on Sunday, December 8, 2019 after living a full life.

John was born in Bucyrus, Ohio on October 22, 1948 along with, his twin brother, Steve Grimes. He married Margie (Salvati) Grimes on May 5, 1985, she survives him.

John served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He loved his family and golf. As a member of the PGA and co-owner of Green Acres Golf Course in Marion, Ohio, he was a major part of the central Ohio golf community. He loved playing golf and teaching golf to his students young and old alike. John also loved spending time with family and friends, especially during his winters spent in Florida and Georgia. He was in business with his twin brother and best friend Steve, who survives him.

In addition to his wife and twin brother, John is survived by his son, Tyler Grimes of Warner Robins, Georgia, his sisters Claire Zarcone and Andrea Parrett and brother-in-law Sam Zarcone of Bucyrus, brother-in-law Mike Salvati and sisters-in-law, Tammy Grimes of Marion, Carol Salvati of Crestline, and Holly Grimes. He is also survived by nephews, nieces, great nephews and great nieces.

John is preceded in death by his brother, Christopher Welsh and his sister, Bonnie Boyce.

Family will receive friends on Saturday, December 14, 2019 from 2:00 until 5:00 PM at the Schneider-Gompf Funeral Home, 223 West Main Street in Crestline. A private military service will be rendered by the U.S. Army and the Galion Crestline Veteran’s Military Funeral Detail.
