Dennis Flaherty Obituary

Dennis “Denny” M. Flaherty, 81, of Crestline, passed away after an extended illness on Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at the Louis B. Stokes VA Medical Center in Cleveland, OH.

Denny was born in Crestline on September 7, 1939 to the late Matthew W. and Frances (Arcudi) Flaherty. He married Sharon G. (Flora) Flaherty on September 2, 1966 and she survives him.

Denny was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Crestline. He graduated from Crestline High School, Class of 1957 where he was an exceptional athlete. His athleticism was so outstanding that he was inducted into the Crestline Hall of Fame. Denny served his country in the U.S. Army from 1962 to 1964, assigned to the German border. Most of his working career was with Peabody Galion, Corporation. In his younger years, Denny enjoyed working on cars. He also enjoyed being outdoors in his garden and doing yard work. Denny was an avid sports fan, cheering on the Cleveland Indians, Cleveland Browns, and the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame. He coached flag football and pony league baseball when his sons were young. He was a people-person, always keeping in touch with his friends and classmates. Denny truly lived to spend time with his grandchildren.

Left to cherish his memory includes his wife of 54 years, Sharon, his two sons, Jeffrey Flaherty, Cambridge and James Flaherty, Crestline; his three grandchildren, Marissa, Connor and Brayden; his siblings; Jean Knapp, Mansfield, Kathryn (Jack) Tooman, Sycamore, Daniel (Marilyn) Flaherty, Crestline, and Mary (Greg) Olson, Delaware.

In addition to his parents, Denny was preceded in death by his sister, Joan Friebel, and his brothers, William and Robert Flaherty.

A private visitation and service will be held for the family only. Burial will take place in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery where military honors will be rendered by the U. S. Army.

In accordance with the Governor’s mandate, face masks will now be required to enter the funeral home.
