Duane Frederick Chatlain, age 71, of Ontario passed away on Saturday, March 7, 2020 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Duane was born on January 18, 1949 in Bucyrus, Ohio to the late Milton and Elaine (Uvanni) Chatlain. On October 20, 2001 he married Linda (Reidenbach) Chatlain who survives in Ontario.
Duane was a 1967 Graduate of Ridgedale High School, and proud owner and operator of Chatlain Enterprises Trucking, he had driven truck for over 50 years, covering more than 5 million miles. He was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church of Leesville, where he served on the Property and Communion Committees. Duane was a lifetime member of the OOIDA, an association of independent truck drivers. He loved watching the NHRA drag racing series, and animals of all kinds, especially his cattle.
In addition to his loving wife, Duane is survived by four children; Duane (Tiffany) Dinesen of Broken Arrow, OK., Veronica Ponce DeLeon of Tulsa, OK., Kimberly Chatlain of Harpster, and Matthew Chatlain of Harpster; Three step-children; Steven (Kelly) Smith of Ashland, Lisa (Dustin) Hendrix of Holmesville, and Shelli (John) Stockmeister of Bloomville; Two brothers; Bradley (Lisa) Chatlain of Lewisville, TX., and William (Judy) Chatlain of Bucyrus; one step-sister; Diane (Rodney) Moore of Powell and a step-brother; Bob (Kathy) Sidney of San Diego, CA.; 14 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Duane was preceded in death by his step-son; Justin Smith, a brother; Dean Chatlain; and two grandchildren.
Friends may call on Friday, March 13, 2020 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Schneider-Gompf Funeral Home; 223 W. Main St. Crestline. Additional calling will take place from 9:00am to 10:00am on Saturday March 14, 2020 at St. John Lutheran Church; 6783 Leesville Rd. Crestline, OH. The funeral service will immediately follow calling hours with Pastor Richard Genzman officiating. Burial will follow in Ontario Community Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, the St. Christopher’s Fund, or Healthwell Foundation.
