Duane Lee Duffner, 86, of Galion, passed away on July 21, 2020 at his home after a brief illness.
Duane was the oldest of 11 children born in Crestline on April 15, 1934 to the late Martin and Martha (Cochran) Duffner. Duane married Carolyn M. (Spraw) Duffner on January 1, 1978, and she preceded him in death on May 24, 2013.
Duane graduated from Crestline High School, Class of l953, where he played basketball and football. He was a member of the Martel United Methodist Church, in Martel, OH. Duane was a lineman for the City of Galion from 1974 to 1997. He was a Crew Chief at the Galion City Line Dept. Duane was an avid shooter, a gun safety instructor and a member of the Galion Rifle Club and the Crawford County Coon Hunters. He enjoyed skeet shooting and black powder competition. He was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association (NRA). Duane donated religiously for over forty years to the Red Cross. He loved hunting and fishing. Duane’s favorite movies were the old westerns, especially those starring John Wayne.
Duane is survived by his children; Sheila (Walt) Poffenbaugh, Willard, Danny (Nan) Duffner, Bucyrus, Lee Jay (Peggy) Duffner, Bucyrus, Sonja (Dan) Striker, Bucyrus; his step-daughter Debbie Carpenter, Crestline; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; his brothers, Larry (Carol) Duffner, Galion, Kevin (Mary Jane) Duffner, Mansfield; his sisters, Maureen Caldwell, Nevada, and Zoa Duffner, Crestline.
In addition to his wife Carolyn, he was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Neva I. (Pollock) Duffner, on April 15, 2000; two great-grandchildren; his siblings; Faith Miller, Kay Ivy, Sandy Woods, Crystal Ditmars, Lanny Duffner and Darlene Guinther.
Friends may call on Thursday, July 23, 2020 from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at the Schneider-Gompf Funeral Home, 223 West Main St., Crestline, OH. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 24, 2020, at 10:00 AM at the Schneider-Gompf Funeral Home, Crestline, with Pastor James Lance officiating. Burial will follow at the Crawford County Memory Gardens, Crestline.
