Flora Mae Benedict (Levings), age 88, passed away on Sunday, April 28, 2024, following a brief illness. She was born on May 19, 1935, in Mt. Gilead, Ohio, but had been a resident of the Hosford House in Galion, Ohio for several decades.
As a proud daughter, aunt, sister, mother, grandmother, and wife, Flora devoted her life to her family. She was a committed homemaker and tireless supporter of her late husband’s family business, no small feat for a mother of seven. As her family grew, so did her heart, and it brought Flora great joy to bring her family together as much as possible over the years. With any free time, she enjoyed shopping for antiques, taking road trips with her sisters-in-laws, and volunteering with the Marion Cadets. In all parts of her life, Flora demonstrated the art of perseverance, and never let the worst of circumstances break her shining soul and sense of humor.
She is survived by sister Rita Murry; six children, Tim, Chris (Frances), Scott (Ann), Tina (Wendell), Greg (Tamara), and Bryan (Theresa); 13 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, James Benedict, whom she wed on November 13, 1950; parents, Othel and Clara Levings; siblings Richard Levings, John Levings, Francis Levings, Mary Rhodes, Junior Levings, Sherman Mullet; and son James Jr.
Alum Creek Friends Church in Marengo, Ohio will host graveside memorial service on Friday, May 3 at 11am, with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial expressions can be donated to an organization of your choice on Flora’s behalf.
