Gerald Keith Winkler, 68 of Crestline passed away on Monday, June 7, 2021 at his home.
Gerald was born in Perryville, Missouri on May 5, 1953 to the late Lester and Aline (Renaud) Winkler. He married Barbara Armstrong on September 23, 1972 and she survives him in Crestline.
Gerald was a graduate of Crestline High School, Class of 1971. After high school he served his country in the United States Navy from 1971 to 1980. Gerald enjoyed being outdoors and soaking in the views of the scenery. He was an avid fisherman, loved hunting and golfing, so much that he lived in Alaska for 33 years. Gerald and his wife recently moved back to their hometown to retire. He also loved photography, flying and was a small aircraft pilot. Gerald was also an avid Cleveland Indians and Browns fan, and a proud self-taught guitar player. He was very intelligent and loved to share his knowledge. Whatever he started, he finished with expertise.
In addition to his wife, Gerald is survived by his daughters; Alison (Rob) Carlisle, San Antonio, TX and Brittany Winkler, Soldotna, AK; six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; siblings Barbara Cope, Mansfield, Russell Winkler, Crestline, Ceilann (Randy) Hoffer, Galion and Kevin Winkler, Crestline; and sister-in-law, Donna (Mark) Baki, Mansfield.
In addition to his parents, Gerald was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Raymond Armstong, mother-in-law, Gertrude Armstrong and sister-in-law Linda (Armstrong) Dunay.
Friends may call Thursday, June 10, 2021 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Mark A. Schneider-Gompf Funeral Home, 223 West Main St. Crestline. Services will be held Friday, June 11, 2021 at 11:00 A.M. with close friend, Bob Wozniak officiating and where military honors will be rendered. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery at a later date.
