Harriet Evangeline (Keirns) McCleese

Harriet E. McCleese, 88, of Galion passed away Monday, January 13, 2020, at Galion Community Hospital.

Harriet was born in Marion, Ohio on June 15, 1931 to the late Ernest J. and Sadie H. (Rainer) Keirns. She married Richard “Ted” McCleese on July 3, 1947, and he survives her.

Harriet attended the Gospel Baptist Church in Galion. She worked in the bakery at Neff’s, was a secretary for M & M Masonry, and a member of the AMVETS Post #1979, Galion. She was a wonderful homemaker, the best Mom there ever was. She was a devout Christian woman, who raised her children to go to church, without a choice.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Ted (Colleen) McCleese, Galion, Ed (Debra) McCleese, Galion, Dee (Murel) Bowe, Sanford, NC, Chris (Laura) McCleese, Columbus, Joyce (Rusty) Miller, Galion; grandchildren, Paul, Angie, Tayler, Scott, Troy, Joshua, Chelsea, Shawn, Tonya, Christopher, Sheila, and Tina; numerous great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and great-great-great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Her much loved poodle Hanna, survives her as well.

The youngest of 10 siblings, Harriet was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings Cecil, John, Dwight, Verteen, Wallace, Merlin, Edwin, Bernadine, and Clarence.

Friends may call Thursday, January 16, 2020, from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm at Schneider-Gompf Funeral Home, 303 Portland Way North, Galion. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 pm on Thursday, January 16, 2020, at Schneider-Gompf Funeral Home, Galion, with Pastor Steve Hodges officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery.
