Jack C. Pennington, 95, of Crestline, died peacefully in his sleep Friday, November 30, 2018 at Mill Creek, Galion after a short illness.

Jack was born in Harlan, KY on August 1, 1923 to the late Charles W. and Nannie B. (Stewart) Pennington. He married Edna B. Fuson on March 6, 1946 and she preceded him in death on September 13, 2015.

Jack proudly served in the U.S. Army Infantry in WWII. He landed at the Normandy Beach and served in the five major campaigns of WWII. Whenever you would see Jack, he would be proudly wearing his WWII Veteran’s hat and enjoyed reminiscing about his time in the service. No one was prouder of the American Flag! Jack served his community for 18 years on the Crestline Police Department, retiring with the rank of Captain. He retired from the Crestline Water Department Pumping Station after 13 years of service. He was a member of the Soldiers and Sailors Club of Galion, the F.O.E., Crestline, the American Legion Post 243, Galion and the Amvets #1979, Galion. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post #2920, Crestline. Jack was also a member of Grace Brethren Church in Galion.

He is survived by his son, Jack L. and Jill Pennington of Galion, his two daughters, Sandra Gaynell and Buddy Beasley of Galion, and Nancy and Dave Hoke of Cypress, TX; his eight grandchildren, Kathy and Brad Wirick of Galion, Jeff and Carla Pennington of Galion, Jeni and Chad Germann of Geneva, IL, Shawn Chartier of Ontario, Kelli Chartier, and Jake Parker, both of Galion, Brian and Stephanie Hoke of Worthington, and Stacy and Matt Kindell of Nixa, MO; 25 great-grandchildren; numerous great-great grandchildren; his sister, Sue and Jim Underwood of NC; and his sister-in-law, Betty Mitchell of Chattanooga, TN.

In addition to his wife, Edna, he was preceded in death by his son and daughter-in-law, Ray and Rita Middleton; his two grandchildren, Chris Middleton and Valerie Prater; his brothers, John Pennington and Charles Mitchell; his two sisters, Margaret Pennington and Hazel and Pastor Elwood Hensley.

Friends may call Monday, December 3, 2018 from 4-7 p.m. at the Schneider-Gompf Funeral Home, 223 W. Main St., Crestline. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, December 4, 2018 with Jack’s grandson, Pastor Jeff Pennington officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Crestline with full military honors conducted by the U.S. Army and the Galion/Crestline Veteran’s Military Funeral Detail.
