Jack Bruce VanDerKooi

Jack B. VanDerKooi, 58, of Cardington passed away on Wednesday, March 18, 2020, at his home after a 4 1/2-year battle with lung cancer.

Jack was born in Galion, Ohio on October 13, 1961, to the late Ernest F. and Kay (Houk) VanDerKooi.

Jack is the beloved husband to Lisa Kay (Madden) VanDerKooi for 30 years, and she survives him.

Jack worked as a Truck Driver. He was a graduate from Galion High School in 1980. Jack was a 2nd Armored Division Infantry soldier in the U.S. Army from 1981 - 1985. He enjoyed flat track racing as multiple generations of family competed. Jack liked shooting guns and sitting by the bonfire while entertaining family and friends. He loved to golf in his free time and was a member of the NRA. He was also a member of the Galion Moose Lodge 303.

Jack is survived by the love of his life, Lisa; sons, Jay (Olivia) and Curt; brothers, John, James (Jane), and Jerry (Julie); his mother-in-law Joy Madden; his sisters-in-law, Michaele (Rick) Williamson, Krista (Mike) Oris; his nieces and nephews, Shara, Brett, Brad, Joe, Jamie, Jarod, Jacob, Caitlyn, Megan, Ashlee, and Zach; several great nieces and nephews; special family friends, Sara Haag and Jeff (Chris) Mailey; his daily companion and furry friend, Sadie.

In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his father-in-law James Madden and family friend Charles Haag.

Friends may call on Friday, March 20, 2020, from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Schneider-Gompf Funeral Home, 303 Portland Way North, Galion. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, March 21, 2020, at Schneider-Gompf Funeral Home, Galion with Pastor Christine Burns officiating. Burial will follow in Crawford County Memory Gardens.
