Joseph "Joe" Charles Gerster, 46, of Shelby, took his own life on Sunday, April 4, 2021.
Joe was born in Middletown, NY, on July 9, 1974, to the late Donald E. Gerster and Stephanie Louise (Northcutt) Gadd of Mt.Gilead. He married Corrie (Rhoades) Gerster on August 13, 2016, and she survives him in Shelby.
Joe attended Crestline High School. A carpenter by trade, he owned and operated Down the Road Woodworking, in Shelby. He was also previously employed at the Marion Correctional Institute. Joe was a jack of all trades. He appreciated rock music and attended many concerts. Joe enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially camping. Joe went on many vacations, but fell in love with St. Augustine, Florida. He loved his family and was a very proud father. Joe was shy by nature but fiercely loyal to his friends and family.
In addition to his wife and mother, Joe is survived by his children, Nate (Goodwin) Gerster, Gabe Gerster, Sam Gerster, Cassandra Gerster, Jacob (Rhoades) Gerster, Ben Gerster; his two stepchildren; Katie Cole and Lily Cole; and his two grandchildren, Izzy Leadingham and Jeremiah Leadingham.
Graveside services will be held at a later date in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Crestline.
