Kenneth Witter Obituary

Kenneth "Ken" Edwin Witter, age 70, of Crestline, Ohio, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of his family on Tuesday, January 18, 2022, at Kingston Residence of Marion after a fifteen-year struggle with Alzheimer's.

Ken was born on July 18, 1951, to the late (Darwin) Dwight Witter and (Hazel) Arlene (Eich) Witter in Bucyrus, Ohio. Ken graduated from Leesville Elementary School then Colonel Crawford High School, where he was a member of the track and cross-country teams. He also played the tenor saxophone in the marching band.

After high school, Ken attended Miami University (Oxford) then transferred to The Ohio State University where he graduated with a degree in Animal Science. After college, Ken married the love of his life, Karen Marie (Schiefer) Witter, and she survives him in Crestline.

Ken was a farmer all his life and raised Black Angus cattle with his father. He also worked at the Crawford County Extension Office, then the Crawford County Farm Service Agency, whereas Chief Program Assistant, he assisted farmers with government loans and programs.

Ken loved music, and attended many concerts with his wife Karen, especially Chicago, who they saw numerous times. Ken and Karen also loved theater and saw many traveling Broadway shows with dear friends. He also loved to travel, and Ken and Karen enjoyed many cruises. He was an avid OSU Buckeyes football fan. Ken greatly enjoyed time spent with family and friends at their cabin in Marblehead at Lake Erie.

While Ken enjoyed farming, music, and traveling, his family was his pride and joy. He cherished his wife, children and grandchildren with boundless love.

In addition to Karen Marie (Schiefer) Witter, his wife of 48 years, Ken is survived by two children, Kevin (Rebecca) Witter of Fort Collins, CO and Kelsey (Jason) Keller of Crestline; his grandchildren, whom he adored, Samuel "Sam" Witter, Evan, Adam and Hunter Keller; Sister-in-laws Carolyn Schiefer, Marilyn Schiefer and Sharon (Kurt) Mueller; niece and nephew Kara (Eric) Haag and Kyle Mueller, as well as many dear friends and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Ken was preceded in death by his brother Theodore "Teddy" Witter, and his in-laws James Gerald "J.G." Schiefer and Carol (Eichelberger) Schiefer.


After residing in Crestline for 45 years, Ken was well-loved and cared for the last 3 ½ years by the exceptional staff at Kingston Memory Care.

Friends may call on Tuesday, January 25, 2022, from 10:00 AM until the time of the service at 12:00 PM at the Mark A. Schneider-Gompf Funeral Home, 223 West Main Street, Crestline, with Pastor Diana Seaman officiating. Masks are required. Burial will follow in the Crawford County Memory Gardens, 6594 Old Lincoln Highway, Crestline.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, in care of the funeral home.
