Loren Glenn Walnum, 91, of Crestline, passed away on January 5, 2022, at his residence.
Loren was born in Galion, on February 27, 1930, to the late Glenard and Mildred (Dish) Walnum. He married Janet Mae (Lilly) Walnum on September 26, 1969, and she survives him in Crestline.
Loren attended Galion High School receiving an honorary diploma 40 years later, and then became a sheet metal worker for Hercules Galion. He then enlisted in the Navy at the age of 17. During his ten-year enlistment he served in both the World War ll and Korean War. He owned and operated Paul Dish Heat & Air and W&S Heating and Sheet Metal and later worked for Butterfield Heat and Air.
Loren was a life member of the Amvets Post #1979, Galion, American Legion Scarborough Post 243, Galion, Loyal Order of Moose #303, Galion, and the VFW Post 4329, Galion of which he served as commander two terms. He was the CEO of the local Special Wish Chapter for 32 years, making many area children's dreams come true while they faced life threatening illness. Loren was inducted into the Crawford County Council on Aging Golden Years Hall of Fame in 1997 and was inducted into the Veterans Hall of Fame in 2008.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife of fifty-two years, Janet; daughter, Penny (Jerry) Brown; sons, Terry Walnum of Oregon, and Randy (Gerri) Scarbro, Bucyrus; and numerous grandchildren, including; Bart (Katy) Scarbro, Justin (Ashley) Scarbro, Brian (Lindsay) Scarbro, Jeffrey Scarbro, Jenna Scarbro, Stacy Scarbro, Angie (Duane) Schramek, Rebecca (Justin) Black, Cassie (Barry) Herschler and numerous great grandchildren. Brother Malcolm (Rita) Cooper, and sister-in-law, Virginia Smiley.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his children; Randy Walnum, Chris Walnum, Tammy Coleman, John Scarbro, Jeff Scarbro, and Sarah (Scarbro) Fender; brothers, Gene Smiley, David Walnum, and two sisters, Barbara Farina, and Dolly Hineberger.
Friends may call on Friday, January 14, 2022, from 10:00 AM until the time of the memorial service at 12:00 PM, at the Schneider-Gompf Funeral Home, 223 West Main St., Crestline, with Mike Woody officiating.
