Margaret Harney Obituary

Margaret ("Peggy" or "Penny") Harney, 89, of Crestline, passed peacefully in the comfort her home early Monday, October 25, 2021.
Margaret was born March 19, 1932, in Lynchburg, Virginia, and grew up in Brighton, Michigan. She was the youngest of 12 children of the late Clarence Gibson and the late Betty Louise (Lee) Gibson.
After moving to Ohio in the late 1950's, she met and married the late James Clifton Harney June 21, 1958.
Margaret loved to sing and was often invited to sing at numerous surrounding churches and events. She served her community as school chaperone, girl scout leader, President of the area United Appeal (now known as United Way), choir director, and Sunday School teacher.
Margaret is survived by three sons, Mark (Dondi) Harney (Mansfield), Martin (Fabrinne) Harney (Los Angelos, CA), and Adam Harney (Kathy) (Mansfield), a daughter, Regina (Harney) Birmingham (Crestline), two half-daughters, Devra (Lenny) Harney, and Jocelyn (Vinny) Harney.
In addition, Margaret is survived by her wonderful, loving sister, Bertha Williams (Marietta, GA), sister-in-law Elsie Gibson (Detroit, MI), seven grandchildren, Jamie Harney, Dylan Gibson, Devon Gibson, Morgan Gibson, Jason Birmingham, Jennifer Birmingham, and Zuri Birmingham.
Lovingly known as "NaNa", she also leaves 11 great grandchildren: Destiny Harney, Houston Harney, Brielle Harney, Nancy Gibson, Matthew Gibson, Issac Gibson, Roman Gibson, Eva Gibson, Kai Gibson, Rain Gibson, Nola Gibson, Amya Birmingham, and Zikenna Ahanotu.
She was preceded in death by her son, Thomas Gibson, grandson, Mark Harney, and ten siblings Charles Gibson, Louise Gibson, Harvey Gibson, Harry Gibson, Gene Gibson, William Gibson, Helen Louise Gibson, Francis Gibson, James Gibson, Katherine Gibson, and Richard Gibson.
Close family members include Joyce Byrd Campbell, Louise Brinson, (both of Pontiac, MI), Doris Robinson (Detroit, MI), Sheila and Dolan Street (Michigan), Sue Winston (Loganville, GA), Ramona and Ashley Everett (Omaha, Neb), Alfred (Molly) Everett (Michigan), and a large host of other loving, dear relatives and friends.
Margaret was a most devoted and loving wife, mother, sister, and friend. She loved to cook, especially for the holidays. She enjoyed playing bingo at home with her family on game nights. She was a mild mannered, soft spoken, gentle human being and a kind and thoughtful person who positively impacted all those around her.
Her cremated remains will be laid to rest at the Fairview Cemetery in Brighton, Michigan during a brief private memorial.
