Obituary

Ruth Wanita Swick, 97, passed away on Thursday afternoon, February 16, 2023, in Galion, Ohio, of natural causes.

Ruth was born in Bucyrus, Ohio, on November 1, 1925, to the late Charles J. and Myrtle M. (Gingery) Ulmer. She married Ellis Hamlet Swick on December 27, 1946; he proceeded her in death on November 4, 1998.

Ruth was a member of the Galion First United Church of Christ where she was active in the Senior Choir and Bethany Circle. Ruth worked at the First National Bank, retiring from Nation City Bank. Ruth enjoyed her job and the people she worked with. She graduated from Galion High School class of 1943. Ruth's favorite pastime was cooking; her family especially enjoyed her holiday mashed potatoes and butterscotch brownies. Family was extremely important to Ruth. She loved hosting picnics and holiday gatherings and being visited by them. She greatly appreciated the family photos that were sent to her. Ruth was an unselfish, kind person; she was known for her smile and good deeds for those who needed them most. She was a devoted caregiver. In recent years she was constantly comforted by the love of her loyal dog and cats, who vied for a place on her lap.

Ruth is survived by her children: son William (Wanda) Swick of Bucyrus; daughter Barbara (James) Gibson of Cuyahoga Falls; and son Charles (Linda) Swick of Galion. She is also survived by grandchildren Andrew (Stephanie Pettinella) Gibson of Cuyahoga Falls, Michael Swick of Galion, Matthew (Julie) Gibson of Twinsburg, Alissa (Rich) Clouse of Delaware, Chelsea (Eric) Swick-Higgins of Beachwood, Gerri (Timmy Jacobs, Jr.) Payne of Galion, and Terrie Payne of Galion. She is also survived by three great grandchildren: Eloise and Maisie Higgins, and Nathan Pettinella.

Along with Ruth's parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law Elizabeth (Floyd) Christman, niece Bonnie Kay Christman, sister and brother-in-law Marybelle (Bob) Moulton, and sister-in-law Margaret Swick.
