Thomas Marquart Obituary

Thomas Fielding Marquart, age 79 of Columbus, passed away after a brief illness, June 19, 2020 at Mt. Carmel St. Ann’s.

Thomas was born on July 28, 1940 in Kansas City, MO. to the late James and Phyllis (Fielding) Marquart. In 1985 Thomas married Joyce (Plummer), who preceded him in 2019.

Thomas served his Country Honorably in the United States Navy on the USS Newport News during the Vietnam War. After serving in the Navy, Thomas would work as a Collection Agent, retiring from the Liebert Corporation. He was an avid Ohio Sports fan, following the Ohio State Buckeyes Football team, the Cleveland Indians, and Browns religiously. Thomas had a love for food, especially cooking, and his many trips to the Olive Garden. He got a good laugh out of constantly pestering the telemarketers that would call. Thomas also would do anything for a good game of Bridge. Thomas was a military history buff, who also had the opportunity to audition for “Who Wants To Be A Millionaire”. Quite possibly Thomas’s favorite activity was spending time with his beloved grandchildren.

Left to cherish Thomas’s memories are his three children; David (DeeDee) Marquart of Columbus, Jennifer (Wesley) Barnett of Columbus, and Mary Beth (Adam) Young of Newark; his three step-children; Joel (Carolyn) Ivary of Ravenna, Jennifer Ivary of Louisville, KY., and Julie (Steve) Brezinski of Columbus; Two sisters; Sue Stahlhut of Twinsburg and Jane (William) Mott of Perry; many nieces and nephews; Sister-in-law- Jackie Richards of Columbus; Mother of his children; Mary Lou Place of Newark; grandchildren; Marcello Ramos, Miranda Canfield, Matthew Ramos, Meghan Wright, Heather Welday, Brooke Welday, Brandon Welday, Paige Hummel, Bailey Hutton, Olivia Young, Laural Stump, Elise Johnson, Cole Johnson, and Kenzie Miller; and 17 great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wife Joyce, Thomas was preceded in death by his sister Ruth Marquart, and brother in law; Heinz Stahlhut
