Wilbur Joseph O'Connell, 88, of Nokomis, Florida passed away on Thursday, May 20, 2021 at Doctor's Hospital in Sarasota, Florida after a 3-year battle with Lung Cancer.
Wilbur was born in Cleveland, Ohio on April 6, 1933 to the later Daniel J. and Mary (English) O'Connell. He married Patricia (Lower) O'Connell on May 16, 1990 and she survives in Florida.
Wilbur worked at the General Motors Coit Road plant in Cleveland for 20 years. He then transferred to the General Motors Ontario plant as an accountant and retired from there. He enjoyed watching baseball especially his favorite team "The Cleveland Indians". Wilbur served his country in the Korean Conflict War while in the U.S. Army. He was a life member of the Amvets Post 87, Mt. Gilead and the VFW Post 8051, Mt. Gilead.
In addition to his wife, Patricia, Wilbur is survived by his nephews, Dan O'Connell and Michael O'Connell; his sister-in-law, Carolyn O'Connell; and cousins, Mike Butler, a prominent Attorney in Cleveland and Mary Lou Betori.
Wilbur was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel O'Connell and Mary O'Connell; and a brother, Daniel O'Connell.
Friends may call on Friday, May 28, 2021, from 12:00pm to 1:00pm at the Schneider-Gompf Funeral Home, 303 Portland Way North, Galion with a funeral service immediately following with Fr. Paul Fahrbach officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Galion.
